I’ve pressure canned twice now with this Presto 01755 16-Quart canner. First potatoes, then mushrooms. Works really well. I have had no issues to far. Everything looks sturdy and high quality. The 16-quart version is considered small, but I’m glad that I bought it, because it is really large.
Comes with detailed instructions. I also recommend downloading the “USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning” for free from the USDA web site.
It is not hard to adjust your stove to keep a certain pressure, according to the recipe. If you are like me, you still want to stay near the canner during the process, so this is not a burden. However, if you want an adjustable pressure valve, it can be bought separately.
If you are new to canning, it can be a bit nervous to do it the first time, because the canner will make whistling noises from steam, everything is scolding hot and you hear sounds of warping metal. This seems to be normal, and doesn’t affect the outcome. I’m happy I bought it.

My old pressure cooker stopped working so looked around and settled on this unit. I was so impressed with the quality and the size is perfect for canning. It is also very easy to use. The price point is fantastic also!

Not induction compatible. I searched for an induction compatible canner and this came up. I have the larger 23 Presto canner which works perfectly with induction this smaller one does not.

I’ve got my second batch of our home grown Fat Man Pole Beans processing as I type. This bean variety is a favorite in my home state of West Virginia. I’m a little confused about the instructions booklet saying to process at a “relatively high” heat setting. As you can see from my photo my burner is set to low which works just right to maintain the recommended 11 lbs pressure, also a bit strange is my old 1980s Ball canning book says to process at 10 lbs. I am however aware that some of these old ways have been superseded by new safer methods. My book also says you can hot water bath green beans which is definitely no longer recommended. But, I did many a jar of beans that way in the 80s and everyone in my family is still here to tell the tale. 😂 Highly recommend this canner!

This is a good sized pressure cooker. Anything larger would smash the burners on my new stove. I won’t buy anything but a Presto. Great for beginners as it comes with the pressure release didler instead of the more old fashioned one. Make sure to have it tested before first batch and annually after.

When I opened the box, the white gasket was already like shredded. Presto no longer makes the little white gasket. It is needed for the pressure valve. Their website says they have a different gasket to replace it now, but there is no part number either. When I tried to locate one, I ordered the wrong gasket. My husband ended up using an auto gasket and modifying it to make it fit. It works fantastic now!
Once I was able to use it, I quickly discovered that a person cannot stack pints in th 16 qt canner. You need the 23 qt one to do that…

I absolutely love this canner. It’s easy to use. I’ve found the gauge to be accurate, but I did purchase a separate weight to be sure.
I am a beginner canner and I’m glad I purchased the Presto as my first.
I use it on a glass top electric stove. It will scratch the top if you slide it, so be mindful.
Highly recommend.

Its been decades since I have canned. This little 16 quart is a perfect size for me and my garden. I just don’t put up as much at one time as I did when I had a family. It works perfectly.
